Our Work

We work to advocate for the wellbeing and dignity of refugees, asylum-seekers, and other vulnerable migrants.

We are effective leaders, storytellers, and advocates who use our firsthand knowledge and experience as refugees and asylum-seekers to share information and advocate for policies and practices that positively impact our communities.

Working at the local, state, and national levels, Refugee Congress elevates local advocacy and outreach efforts to the national level and creates connections between former refugees, asylum-seekers, and allies working toward common goals across the country.

Refugee Congress regularly collaborates with refugee resettlement agencies, nonprofit organizations, public and private sector organizations, and grassroots organizers across the nation on common goals and interests. We are members of the Refugee Council USA coalition, steering committee members of We Are All America and the Opportunity for All Campaign, and a core partner in the Refugee Advocacy Lab.

Public Education

Refugee Congress members use our voices and stories to educate the public and policy-makers about refugee resettlement, asylum protections, and issues impacting our refugee and asylee communities through webinars, panels, roundtables, media interviews, and more.

Advocacy

Refugee Congress members advocate for local, state, and national policies and programs that promote the wellbeing, integration, and dignity of refugees and asylum-seekers in the U.S. We educate and encourage the public and policy-makers to adopt policies that welcome refugees and support their success.

Capacity-Building & Leadership Development

Refuge Congress builds the capacity of refugee and asylee leaders and communities across the country through training, resource sharing, and peer mentorship. We strive to provide capacity-building and leadership development not only for Refugee Congress members but for the broader refugee and asylee communities.
