World Refugee Day

On June 20 and throughout the month of June, we join together for World Refugee Day to celebrate the contributions of refugees and rally for increased welcome and support for refugees.

In the midst of the current COVID-19 crisis, refugees are ensuring the health and well-being of their communities as essential workers such as healthcare professionals, driver, teachers, grocery workers and more. Many others are volunteering to bring food to vulnerable neighbors, deliver supplies to those in need, connect virtually with elderly neighbors who need to see a friendly face and much more.

That’s why the theme of this year’s World Refugee Day is #RefugeesSaveLives.

While we seek to secure welcome and safety for refugees and asylum-seekers, we are also reminded that the work of building safe and equitable communities in the U.S. is ongoing. We join together with our communities to pledge support for racial justice and antiracism. Our lives and rights are interconnected, and Refugee Congress stands in solidarity as #RefugeesForBlackLives.
