Meriem LeClair
Meriem LeClair is a dedicated preschool teacher and passionate human rights advocate whose journey from Tunisia reflects a profound commitment to justice and individual freedoms. With a multifaceted background that combines education, international relations, and hands-on activism, Meriem is persistent in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable in her Saint Paul community, and at fostering meaningful dialogue on critical global issues.
Born and raised in Tunisia, Meriem developed an early appreciation of the power of education and the importance of human rights. This led her to pursue a degree in international relations, where the exploration of individual freedoms, international law, and socio-cultural dynamics became central themes. Her academic and professional journey provided a solid foundation for addressing the complexities of religious and cultural clashes on a global scale.

Additionally, Meriem is a certified interpreter and certified youth consultant which equipped her with the skills to bridge communication gaps and offer tailored support to displaced individuals and youth navigating challenging circumstances. Through working for organizations such the Iraqi American Reconciliation Project, Youth Collaboratory, and the YMCA Youth and Family Services, she developed deep knowledge on the intersections between various systems—such as immigration and public housing—enabling her to serve those who are fleeing persecution and marginalization abroad and, in the U.S.
Meriem volunteers for various cultural entities on college campuses and for entities such as the NE Sculpture Gallery in Minneapolis because she believes our best chance at creating assimilation, understanding, and a connected diverse community is through music, art, and dialogue.
As a teacher, Meriem is committed to nurturing young minds and instilling values of empathy and inclusivity. As an advocate, she is committed to equal opportunity, upholding the rule of law, and enforcing positive change. As an asylum seeker, Meriem is committed to the friendships she has made and the networks she has joined with people from all over the world; together aiming to protect human rights and raise the voices of the unheard.
