Rose Catherine Mayan

Rose Catherine Mayan
Delegate for Michigan
Resettled from South Sudan

Rose Catherine Mayan is a refugee originally from Sudan before the country split and South Sudan became a nation in 2011 after decades of war. She resettled in Michigan in 2006 from Cairo, Egypt.

Rose started working with refugees in 2010 as an Arabic interpreter where she learned the difficulties facing refugees in America and has been volunteering in her community ever since. Rose firmly believes that refugees are humans who deserve to be treated with dignity and respect and that refugees are not voiceless - everyone has a voice; how, when, and where to raise that voice is the reason she is working with refugees to increase the volume of their voices.

Rose graduated from Calvin University with a B.A in International Development Studies, and currently works as an Immigrant Rights Organizer for Michigan United and Michigan People's Campaign.
