Suraj Budathoki is a Refugee Congress Honorary Delegate from New Hampshire. He came to the U.S. as a resettled refugee in 2009.

Suraj is a small business owner. Previously, he worked as Interim Executive Director at Building Community in New Hampshire (BCNH), formerly the Bhutanese Community of New Hampshire. He is also a founding member of BCNH and coordinated marketplace navigation and the New American Youth Engagement Project at BCNH. In Bhutan, he worked as Executive Director at the International Campaign for Human Rights.

Suraj was nominated for the American Council of Young Political Leaders in 2014 and 2016, and was named to the 40 Under 40 Class of 2016 by the Union Leader. He serves as a conduct board member in the City of Manchester.

Suraj has a master’s in international relations from Norwich University. In his free time, he reads political books and advocates for the rights of the exiled Bhutanese. 

“I came here as a refugee twelve years ago. Now, I am a college graduate. My wife and I are small business owners and employ more than a dozen people. Bringing in and supporting refugees, to me, is equal to serving god. Serving humanity is a way of serving god.”
