How you can help people affected by the Syria-Turkey earthquakes

For Immediate Release: February 8, 2023

Early Monday morning, 7.8 and 7.5-magnitude earthquakes hit southeastern Turkey and northwestern Syria – an area already severely impacted by ongoing conflict which has created housing instability and displaced millions. As of now, there are over 11,000 victims of the earthquake, and tens of thousands more injuries in both Turkey and Syria.

Our hearts go out to the thousands of victims of these earthquakes, and we mourn their loss alongside the families, friends, and communities that have been devastated by this disaster. We are also deeply saddened by the impact of this disaster on the one million Syrian refugees living near the Turkey-Syria border.

“People in Syria, especially in the North and coastal areas, have long been struggling with a severe lack of resources and basic services. While local and diaspora organizations are stepping up to respond to this emergency, it is critical that our support extend to all affected people - in both government and opposition areas - and remove barriers to providing humanitarian aid.” said Ali Aljundi, Membership Manager at Refugee Congress.

Resources are needed to facilitate the ongoing rescue and recovery efforts after these earthquakes. There are many organizations already doing the vital work to coordinate fundraising and support. If you are looking for ways to help, please donate through the links below.
