Resettled Refugee from Sudan

Adam Sadda is the Refugee Congress Delegate for North Carolina.

Adam is a former refugee from Darfur, a region in western Sudan where conflict erupted in 2003 when armed militias systematically attacked indigenous residents and caused the death of more than 300,000 people. He came to the U.S. from Egypt in 2013, seeking safety, security, and a better life after fleeing genocide in his homeland.

Adam graduated from the University of North Carolina - Greensboro (UNCG) in 2023, majoring in political science with a minor in economics. He is a voluntary member of the City of Durham’s Citizens Advisory Committee. which consists of 10 to 15 representatives appointed by the City Council to examine public and community issues such as housing, public education, and public transportation. He has also worked as a volunteer interpreter or translator with local refugee resettlement organizations with the aim of helping Arabic-speaking refugees.

In 2020, Adam received an award from the City of Durham, North Carolina, for his contribution to the community through volunteer service in the city.

In his free time, he enjoys socializing and going out for a cup of coffee or for healthy snacks with friends. He also likes reading history books and short philosophical novels.

Two years of conflict in Sudan is a somber reminder of global displacement

Refugee Congress recognizes the weight of this somber anniversary. We stand with our Sudanese members and neighbors here in the United States, and we call for rapid action by our elected leaders to support the people who are in Sudan and to increase accountability for those who are perpetuating the violence, displacement, and killing of men, women and children.
