Fartun Weli is Executive Director and Founder of Isuroon, a nonprofit with a mission of helping Somali women build self-sufficiency and maintain healthy lives. Isuroon is committed to improving the health and upward mobility of Somali women in Minnesota, the U.S. and Somalia and promotes health and empowerment for Somali women through health education, communication and advocacy to create policy change. In Somali, “Isuroon” means an independent woman. Isuroon has social service programs, refugee, women and girls and advocacy.

Over the past 10 years, Fartun has served at least 12,000 families with an average size of seven. Isuroon does not have regional code limitations, and families come from everywhere to access their food shelf, legal help and health insurance and to get help navigating the system.

Fartun holds a B.A. in Business-Project Management from Capella University and a Master of Public Health from Walden University. She has certificates in the Politics of IT Project Management, Self-Mastery: The Key for Thriving in the New Normal, and Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships (MAPP).

Fartun is dedicated to issues related to women, women of color, economic empowerment policy, politics, interpersonal communication and racism.
