Fatima Dirie
Fatima Dirie is the Refugee Congress Delegate for Utah. She was born in Somalia and lived in Kenya for several years before coming to the United States wit her family in 1997.
Fatima has more than 15 years of experience supporting youth enrichment programs and working with refugee and immigrant communities. She currently works as the Refugee Community Liaison for the Salt Lake City Mayor’s office and is co-founder and Vice President of the Somali Youth Center. She is also a member of United Africans of Utah, serves on the Governor’s Refugee Advisory Board and coordinates the Utah Refugee Civic group.
Fatima has a master’s degree in social work with an emphasis on international social work from the University of Utah and speaks five languages: Somali, Mai, Mai, Chimini, Swahili and English. She is passionate about advocating for human rights and social justice issues, empowering women and youth to be leaders and educating people about refugee populations.
