Isabel Kayembe
Isabel Kayembe is the Refugee Congress Delegate for Rhode Island. After fleeing her village in Angola, she spent 17 years in Osire Refugee Camp in Namibia before being resettled in the U.S.
Isabel is a case manager and community health worker at the Refugee Dream Center, an agency that offers services that targets gaps within the refugee community by ensuring continuity of services in their efforts towards self-sufficiency and integration. Before coming to the U.S., she worked as a social worker at Osire Refugee Camp in Namibia for ten years.
During the pandemic, Isabel has been volunteering to help residents in her community access resources such as food, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizer and masks, and has worked to translate COVID-19 materials so that non-English speaking residents can understand health recommendations.
In her free time, she enjoys playing and watching soccer, dancing, crafts, art and socializing.
