Resettled Refugee from Kenya

Jane Kinity is the Refugee Congress Delegate for Connecticut. She is a resettled refugee from Kenya and came to the U.S. in 2000 after spending two years in a refugee camp in Uganda.

Jane is the founder and Executive Director of the International New Hope for Refugee and Immigrants Center, which supports cultural, community and economic development. Her areas of focus are Swahili translation, English literacy, job training, youth mentorship, case management, health and wellness and rights advocacy.

Jane also volunteers in the community of New Haven, working with the Iris Refugee Ministry. She attended Ashworth College and the University of Bridgeport and has a CNA certificate and Justice of the Peace certificate. She was honored with a 2012 Public Leadership Citation, was an honoree of the 2012 Immigration Day and was recognized for work as Alderwoman in 2013.

In her free time, Jane enjoys helping in her community, cooking and going to the gym.
