Sara Deewa is the Refugee Congress Delegate for New Mexico. She came to Albuquerque as a refugee from Afghanistan in 2016.

Sara works as a research assistant and interpreter with the Refugee Wellbeing Project at the University of New Mexico.

She is fluent in Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Farsi and English.

Refugees have valuable knowledge and experience from their home countries to build on as they re-make their lives in the United States. It is important to recognize the economic and social contributions to their new communities.”
