Sateza Safi
Sateza Safi is the Founder and President of Afghan Student Empowerment in the United States. Originally from Afghanistan, she is currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in political science and anthropology at the University of Tulsa.
Since its inception, the Afghan Student Empowerment project, led by Sateza, has achieved remarkable success and made a tangible impact on the lives of Afghan students at the University of Tulsa. The peer mentoring program has facilitated meaningful connections and provided valuable guidance to Afghan students, while the tutoring program has contributed to improved academic performance and confidence among participants. Additionally, the cultural celebrations and welcome program activities have fostered a sense of inclusion and appreciation for Afghan culture within the university community.

Recently, she was selected as a recipient of the Sparking Change pilot grant, a collaborative initiative by USA for UNHCR, Welcoming America, and Refugee Congress. The grant supported her project to empower Afghan students through mentorship and tutoring.
Since the summer of 2024, Sateza has been working with one of her professors as a research assistant and is helping develop cultural orientation modules for refugees and newcomers. She has developed several modules that cover a variety of topics to help newcomers as they resettle in the US, including: Tax Laws in U.S., Driving laws in U.S., Public Safety, and others. She is also working on ways to implement them in various refugee communities.
