Refugee Congress Promotes Ali Aljundi to Director of Programs

Ali Aljundi, who joined Refugee Congress in May 2022 as the Membership Engagement and Leadership Development Manager, was promoted to Director of Programs on January 1, 2025.

Under his leadership, Refugee Congress has grown significantly, with more than 110 members (Delegate, Associate Delegates, and Honorary Delegates representing 44 states, and the District of Columbia). He has also expanded the scope and scale of leadership enhancement and development opportunities for Refugee Congress Delegates and partners, and has elevated Refugee Congress’ visibility and impact in our field. As Director of Programs, Ali will continue to lead Delegate development, and steer the growth of current and future initiatives at Refugee Congress.

Prior to joining Refugee Congress, Ali worked as a Policy and Diaspora Engagement Advisor at Oxfam America, where he contributed to the organization’s advocacy work on global humanitarian crises, as well as immigration and refugee issues in the United States. Earlier in his career, Ali served as a Senior Career Development Coordinator at the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA), where he enhanced capacities of Palestinian refugees in his home country Syria. He holds a master’s degree in sustainable international development from Brandeis University in Massachusetts.

“This is a well-deserved promotion that reflects Ali’s excellent service and commitment to our members, as well as the growing profile and programmatic work of Refugee Congress,” said Nili Sarit Yossinger, Executive Director. “We are so grateful for Ali and the leadership and vision he brings to our organization. We are thrilled to continue working with him as our new Director of Programs.”
