Refugee Congress launches National Refugee Leadership & Lived Experience Council (NRLLEC) program

Washington, DC - Refugee Congress is pleased to announce the launch of the National Refugee Leadership and Lived Experience Council (NRLLEC)™ .

The NRLLEC is a federal initiative of the Department of Health & Human Services’ Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), and is led by Refugee Congress in partnership with Refugee Council USA, Every Campus a Refuge, Church World Service, and USA Hello. The council will be able to provide feedback on program impact and population needs.

“Centering the lived experience of individuals who were beneficiaries of services in the future design and implementation of these programs is an essential part of policy formation,” said Nili Yossinger, Executive Director of Refugee Congress. “We are thrilled to work alongside our colleagues at ORR to facilitate direct refugee participation in policy formation while simultaneously providing refugee leaders the opportunity to expand their network and leadership opportunities.”

The first cohort will focus on refugee youth ages 18-24. Applications for the first council are now being accepted through January 8th, 2025. Candidates must submit their applications here. A NRLLEC selection committee will select participants by January 15th, 2025. The first cohort will commence in February 2025.
