Nehemia Abel

Nehemia Abel is the proud Co-founder of Ubuwme, a nonprofit organization that seeks to unify and empower Burundian refugees in the diaspora by providing mentorship and tangible support as they pursue higher education and careers. Previously, he served as a Foreign Service Officer with the United States Agency for International Development’s Bureau for Humanitarian Assistance, managing life-saving assistance programs in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Moreover, he consulted for Jesuit Refugee Service to develop strategies for embedding gender responsiveness into livelihood programs in Kenya. Nehemia holds a Master of Science in Global Human Development from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service, where he obtained certificates in Refugees and Humanitarian Crises, Social Innovation, as well as African Studies.

Abel received a Bachelor's degree in Marketing from the University of Mary Washington. In his spare time, he enjoys playing soccer and board games with family and friends.
