Sharon Njie

An asylee from Cameroon, Sharon Njie carries lived experience of displacement into rooms where refugee policy is decided. Louisiana's Delegate to Refugee Congress and a Steering Committee member, she has repeatedly led and accompanied state delegations at national advocacy days with We Are All America and Refugee Council USA. At the United Nations Permanent Forum on People of African Descent in Geneva, her floor statement on reparations and systemic racism centered Deep South refugee and Black migrant perspectives.

As Communications and Strategic Partnership Director at the Louisiana Organization for Refugees and Immigrants, she leads external communications and strategic partnerships and supports its policy and advocacy work, including directing World Refugee & Immigrant Day. She completed training in international refugee law through a UNHCR-funded scholarship. A doctoral candidate in public policy, she teaches in the College of Business at Southern University and A&M College, a historically Black university.
