Board of Directors
Senka Filipovic was born and raised in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and was forcibly displaced during the Bosnian War in the 1990s. Resettled to the United States as a young refugee, her lived experience shaped a lifelong commitment to refugee and social justice issues.
Senka is a dedicated humanitarian with over 15 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, specializing in private sector partnerships, resource mobilization, and strategic initiatives that advance global humanitarian goals. She currently serves as Director of Corporate Partnerships at World Food Program USA, where she leads efforts to engage private sector partners, particularly in the technology and gaming industries, in the fight to end global hunger and achieve food security for all.
Previously, Senka spent a decade on the International Rescue Committee’s (IRC) Institutional Philanthropy and Partnerships team, working with partners across the corporate and foundation sectors. She also contributed to initiatives that shaped the organization’s external engagement strategies. Senka was the founding member and Co-Chair of the Refugee Voices Advisory Committee, a group of former refugees leading efforts to root the IRC’s humanitarian, advocacy, and communications work in the dignity and perspectives of displaced communities. In addition, she was an active participant in the IRC’s staff-led Global Anti-Racism and Decoloniality (GARD) Network and other internal diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives, where she advocated for greater transparency, accountability, and systemic change within the humanitarian and refugee resettlement sectors.
Senka holds a Master’s degree in Global Affairs from Rutgers University and a Bachelor’s degree in Government and International Affairs from California State University, Sacramento.
